Kashmir comes from the Kashmir region
This wool comes from a very special breed of goat, the Changthangi (or Pashmina goat). These goats live in the Kashmir region, in the high mountains between India, Pakistan, and China, extending into Mongolia.
This area is extremely inhospitable due to the very cold winter temperatures. These goats therefore have the unique ability to produce an extremely fine and, above all, very (very) soft long coat every year to withstand the cold.

Many Pashmina goats are used to make a cashmere scarf.
On average, our goats produce 100 grams of wool per season. The wool from 2 to 3 Pashmina goats is then needed for an entire scarf.
At Doux Cachemire, we are committed to animal welfare. During the molting season, when spring arrives, we collect the cashmere from our goats by brushing them. This is more work than shearing the animal, but it is necessary so that the goat retains its coat, which protects it from cold, insects, injuries, and so on.
Now you understand why cashmere is a very exclusive material. It accounts for 0.5% of global wool production. It is therefore a very luxurious material.

Cashmere loves water
It may seem surprising, but cashmere loves water! It's actually very beneficial for caring for the wool, making it even more beautiful and wearable.
Water cleans cashmere, but that's not all. By moistening the cashmere, the fibers return to their original shape as they dry. This refreshes the wool.
After a few days, the wool is clean.

A wool clever
Cashmere keeps you warm, three times warmer than sheep's wool, but is also a breathable wool: cashmere is a natural fiber that absorbs water and sweat, making it breathable and comfortable to wear.
Furthermore, cashmere wool is very durable and naturally soft. Your scarf will retain its shape even after many years.

Before the cashmere fibers are dyed, the natural wool is dyed in three colors: white, brown and grey.

A little history about Kashmir. Europe discovered the fabric at the end of the 18th century during the Egyptian campaign, a military expedition aimed at conquering Egypt and the East, thereby blockading the British East Indies. The French Empress Josephine is said to have loved the Kashmir shawls brought back by her husband, Napoleon.
European entrepreneurs then explored Asia to introduce this fiber to their continent. One of the first European producers was Jean-Baptiste Decrétot with his textile factory.
